dunno if can check the amount of active players in standard, because its full of dead hardcore characters that ppl didnt delete. it like the graveyard. According to PoeApp, a little less than 10% of trades made in the last hour or so were from Standard. Perhaps not 1:1, but it should give you an idea.

Most players play the temporary leagues. Standard is the permanent league and has been running since Path of Exile's launch. There are many more items in the economy

Note that those numbers are just concurrent players. Total active POE players is in the millions (albeit some just log on for a day every now and then).
